30-365 | Day 94

Hovenweep Castle

We ended off our day hiking Little Ruin Canyon at Hovenweep National Monument for the sunset. I like the color reflection off of the Hovenweep Castle in this photo.

Bonus Photo: Painted Hand Pueblo

This was the first ruin site in Canyons of the Ancients National Monument that we stopped and hiked to. I really liked the ruins at this site, and enjoyed my time exploring the area. Here’s a photo of the round tower up close with a nice sky behind.

Bonus Photo 2: Holly Tower & Great House

Another stop we made in Hovenweep today was to the Holly Unit. I really like how Holly Tower (referred to as Boulder House in the park literature) was built on the boulder in the middle of the canyon over 800 years ago and still stands in good shape to this day. Behind Holly Tower is the Holly Great House perched on the opposite rim of the canyon.
