Day 3 – The Final Day!
Finally, after 3 Saturdays, the cage is finished. One week before heading out to CO!
This time I brought it to Dug’s shop
Today was mostly welding, with a little grinding. Dug after finishing all the welding.
Got it home and went to town with the flat black
Added some padding, and it’s pretty much done (for now)

Day 2.
Still didn’t finish today, but hopefully sometime this week or next weekend we will. All bends are done, all tubes are notched, two sections of the cage are fully welded. Just need to weld the feet plates to the floor and finish welding the cage and paint it.
Here’s some pics from today:
almost all the bars tacked in place:
gonna also be running tube from the bottom of the a-pillar to the bottom of the b-hoop to keep them from spreading in a roll……i didn’t go at an angle from the hoop to the front since I already have the tube doors.
cutting plate with a sawzall sucks
once we knew where everything was going, we broke the tacks between the a-pillar and the b-hoop and pulled them out seperately to fuly weld……they will be easy to weld back together in the vehicle
some welding going on
grinding away herculiner sucks, too
ready to fully weld
more welding action

No wheeling this weekend (getting ready for my CO trip in a few weeks), so Cooter, Joe, BONEZ, and Dug came over and we started building a cage for my XJ.
We pretty much spent all day working on it. All we got left is one bend, a few more notches, some grinding, and the final welds. Hopefully will finish next weekend.
Here’s some pics:
We can squeeze a few trucks in the back
B-hoop bent up
working on the a-pillars
the notcher
tacked in place
working on the back down bars
a flatbed trailer has a lot of uses, including making a good workbench 😉
we worked into the night 🙂
Anyways, cage has to be done before i leave for CO in 3 weeks, so I will post pics when complete 🙂
Thanks again to Cooter, Joe, Dug and BONEZ for your help!

my damage from last weekend:
Anyways, the roll pin had backed out. It was at the bottom of the diff…I tried putting it back in, and the fit was very loose. I found a brand new roll pin, and will reinstall when the new cross shaft arrives.
