Pre-Order: Backcountry Adventures Colorado

I just pre-ordered my copy of the new Backcountry Adventures Colorado book. It’s expected to be released on June 15. The other Backcountry Adventures books I own (Utah and the old Colorado book) have been very useful for me planning my trips, and I look forward to the new version for Colorado 🙂

This version nearly doubles them amount of trails contained in the first book (143 to be exact), and comes with a new hard cover. These books have always contained a lot of history about the trails, besides just how to get to them. This book should come in very handy for me ths year. You can be sure that once I receive my copy, I will give it a review here on my website…so stay tuned.

In Search of the Outlaw Trail

I just got my copy of the book The Adventures of Pass Patrol: In Search of the Outlaw Trail, written by Larry Heck. I’m looking forward to reading though it 🙂 I’ve been to a few areas in this book, and look forward to exploring new areas. Unfortunately, there are also some trails in this book that have been closed to vehicles, so I will never get to experience those.

I’m really hoping to put together a longer expedition on the Outlaw Trail in the future, and this book should help me plan the route. 😉

Charles Wells’ new Moab Book (Released Feb 2008)

Just got my hands on his new Moab book yesterday, and I must say that I am very impressed with it. I have had the original version since I bought it for my first trip to Moab in 2003, and it has been a great asset while visiting Moab, however, it was falling apart and certainly is not as nice.

The color maps and photography are a nice touch, and also makes the maps easier to read and get a feel for the surrounding terrain. The updated GPS coordinates should be much better than the previous ones, since they will be more accurate.

I also highly recommend getting the spiral binding. If you would like to order your own copy, check out FunTreks website.

Finally, theMike over on Colorado4x4 has put all the GPS waypoints into a GPX file here.

Wow again! I can’t believe it either. I have read threee books in just over a week 😉

It is a very easy read and very interesting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to visit Moab or has plans on visiting the area. I cannot wait to get bAck to Moab now 😀

White Canyon: Remembering the Little Town at the Bottom of Lake Powell

Wow, I can’t believe I have actually read two books in the span of one week. What is wrong with me? 😉

Like the previous book I read (The Split Sky), this book is written by Tom McCourt and I could not put it down down. The book is about the authors experiences in the little town of White Canyon in the 50’s which has since been covered with the waters of Lake Powell.

It was a good read, and again I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys exploring the canyons of Utah.

What’s next on my list of books? Well, it would be another book by Tom McCourt that just recently came out; The Moab Story. I’m sure I will enjoy this one as well, since I love spending time around Moab 🙂
