Gloomy morning at Devils Kitchen

Footwear.

Time for some new shoes and boots. I have been wearing Dr. Martens boots for the last 12+ years, however, they were bought out a few years ago and changed from being hand-made in England to being made in China. From that point, their quality had gone way down. I finally decided it’s time to try something different, especially since I am doing more hiking and other outdoor activities.

After some research, I ended up going with a light weight and waterproof hiking boot, along with a pair of waterproof cross-trainers.

The hiking boots I got are the Keen Targhee II Mid:

The cross-trainers I ended up getting are the Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR:

Both pairs are very comfortable. I’m looking forward to testing them out 🙂 Hopefully they live up to their waterproof and breathable claims. If I have any issues with either, I’ll be sure to post up my problems here.

Hiking, Biking, Jeeping, Geocaching, Photoing

What a great day! Amanda and I woke up early this morning and headed over to McDonald Creek for a little hiking. This is a nice easy hike that starts out near Castle Rocks and then heads down to the Colorado River.

There are also some pictographs along the canyon.

Mica Mine Hike

Even though Amanda and I stayed home this weekend to get a bunch of stuff done around the house (and we did), we still needed to get out for a little bit. We haven’t hiked to Mica Mine yet this year, so we got up early this morning and spent a few hours in the Rough Canyon area. We were hoping the creek was still flowing in the canyon, but I guess it has been too dry lately and the creek was dry, so we did not bother hiking all the way to the waterfall past the mine.

Here’s a few photos from our hike…

Otto’s Trail

Since my ‘America the Beautiful’ National Parks pass expired this week, I decided to head up to the Colorado National Monument to buy a new one. I figured while I was there I would break out my camera and hike the short Otto’s Trail. It was a gloomy and snowy day up there, but I think I managed to snap a few good HDR images 😉
