A hike to Mica Mine

After Amanda got out of work today, we decided to head out for an evening hike to Mica Mine, which is located near Bangs Canyon. It wasn’t a long hike, but it was a nice one. I wasn’t expecting the creek to have any water in it, but it was flowing pretty good.

We found the tailings pile for Mica Mine, but were unable to find the actual mine. We searched and climbed a little, but had to head home. We plan on going back in the near future to search some more. Plus, we have read that there might be a waterfall further up the canyon we want to check out.

Here’s a few pictures from the hike.

A day at Arches National Park

On Saturday, Amanda and I spent the day at Arches National Park to do some wheeling, hiking, and sight-seeing. She had never been there before and wanted to go for her birthday.

We started out on the trail to Tower Arch.

Once you make it to the end of the trail, it’s a short hike to see the arch.

Camelbak Alpine Explorer

Since Amanda and I have been doing more hiking lately, and plan on doing a lot more, we needed a day pack to carry all the stuff we need to take with us, including plenty of water. After looking at some packs locally, I really liked the 2008 Camelbak Alpine Explorer. It’s a good size for us at 2015 cubic inches, and holds 3 liters of water. There are also a number of pockets to make organization a breeze. The back portion is also vented to help keep your back cool. It just happened to be on sale for a pretty good price, too 😉

We are planning on doing some hiking in Arches National Park this weekend, so we should be able to give it a good test.

This afternoon, Amanda and I went for a short hike near home and did part of the Gunnison River Bluffs Trail. This trail follows along the Gunnison River and intersects with the Old Spanish Trail. Here’s a few pictures from our hike.

Echo Canyon

Today Amanda and I decided to go on a short hike through Echo Canyon located in the Colorado National Monument. It’s a short hike that is pretty easy most of the way, with some great views.

Here’s a few pictures from the day.
