Kelty Grand Mesa 4

After our last trip to Moab, the old Eddie Bauer tent I have started to really fall apart. I actually bought that tent for my first trip to Moab in 2003, so I guess it’s only fitting that it had it’s demise there as well.

After looking at some tents at the local outdoors stores, we ended up purchasing a Kelty Grand Mesa 4 tent from Amazon.com. It just arrived today, just in time to use this weekend on our trip to the Cedar Mesa area in South Eastern Utah. I should have a review of the tent when I get back 🙂

Colorado Legal

My XJ is finally legal. Got it registered this morning and my new plates installed after work.

Already sent in my application for personalized plates, so that I can hopefully get LNGSTRT here in Colorado, too.

Dewey Bridge Destroyed!

Just came across this article on the Salt Lake Tribune’s website.

An historic suspension bridge was destroyed Sunday when a young boy started a brush fire by playing with matches, Grand County sheriff’s deputies said.
The fire started at about 4 p.m. at the campground and boat ramp on Highway 128 near the Colorado River, deputies wrote in a statement. The fire moved up the river bank and “totally destroyed” the bridge, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the state’s historical Web site.
The bridge was built in 1916 and “is significant for its outstanding engineering accomplishment and for its historical role as a vital transportation and commercial link connecting southeastern Utah with Colorado and other points east,” the Web site states.
Until Sunday, it was the state’s longest clear-span bridge – that is, the longest bridge with no supports built into the waterway it crosses.

This is terrible news. I have enjoyed photographing the bridge on a few different occasions. Amanda and I were just there a few weeks ago, and actually stayed at the same campground that it seems this fire originated from.

Here’s a few pictures of the bridge from just over two weeks ago.

America the Beautiful Pass

Amanda and I are heading out to visit the Colorado National Monument tomorrow, and since we plan on visiting a number of National Parks (Arches, Canyonlands, etc.) now that we live much closer, we figured it would be a good idea to pick up an annual pass. So I headed up to the Monument today and got one that is good for both of us. The America the Beautiful Pass should pay for itself in a very short time.

If you are interested in the pass, find out more information here and maybe pick one up for yourself!
