A few months back I scored another set of permits to Coyote Buttes North and The Wave. Since I was going to be down here for that, I decided to grab a pair of permits to Coyote Buttes South and make a weekend out of it. This was my first trip to Coyote Buttes South, and I know it definitely won’t be my last!

My friend Jackson and I got an early start on Saturday morning and started driving south to the Paria Plateau. Once we were over the border in Utah I noticed that there was probably going to be a great sunrise. I pulled off the highway just before the sun came up and took this photo of my Jeep with a very colorful sky.

We eventually reached the trailhead at Cottonwood Cove and started exploring the area.

There is plenty of colorful sandstone around here. We had some nice skies early in the afternoon.

Last week I drove out to East Orchard Mesa to try and find a spot to take some photos of a sunset from. I never did find a good spot, but the sunset ended up being very nice, so I just pulled over and took a few quick photos.

This first one is looking back towards Grand Junction across a field. The colors were spectacular!

I also noticed the reflection of the pink clouds on the hood of my Jeep.

These aren’t really great photos, but I thought I would share them anyway.

As I was driving home from Moab on Saturday it was getting close to sunset so I decided to stop and take yet another photo of the Fisher Towers.

I headed back up to the Monument again this morning to catch the sunrise. Here’s a few photos I took.

Here’s a photo of the Second Wave that I took a few weeks ago when I visited Coyote Buttes North. This photo made Flickr Explore yesterday, so I thought I would post it up here since the full trip report won’t be done for at least a few more days.
